Professional and Educational Background
I’ve been working as a therapist for 35 years, both in private practice and in treatment centers with teens and families. A few years ago, I realized that I wanted to understand people more deeply and help them make more lasting changes. As a result, I enrolled in psychoanalytic training at Senior Candidate at LAISPS (Los Angeles Institute and Society for Psychoanalytic Studies). This involves coursework, infant observation, three training cases, and my own personal analysis. Going through my own analysis (four times a week for several years!) has helped me better understand myself, become more aware of my unconscious mind (as much as possible), and ultimately be more accepting of who I am. I’m currently a Senior Candidate at LAISPS, working analytically with clinical cases under close supervision.
This work allows me to draw on both lived experience and years of study to better understand what it means to be human. To expand and grow, we all need support and sometimes an objective perspective (i.e., a therapist). I hope to help you understand your experiences more deeply and how they’ve shaped you, so that you can feel more whole and integrated.
Additionally, I work with teens and families at a treatment center. I love working with teenagers for two reasons: first, adolescence is a pivotal stage of life when identity is formed, and second, teenagers tend to tell it like it is—they don't tell us everything is fine when it isn't. I also work with families because I understand the importance of family support and helping parents truly listen to and understand their children. I facilitate a Multi-Family Group at an intensive outpatient program for teenagers in Pasadena.
